Canadian Registration Number (CRN) and ABSA Registry
The CRN is the provincial design-registration identifier required for boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping, and pressure-retaining fittings in Canada. CRNs are issued after an engineering design review confirms compliance with ASME/CSA codes and provincial regulations. Alberta’s regulator - Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) - administers CRNs under the Pressure Equipment Safety Regulation (PESR), maintains a public searchable directory, and enforces Alberta-specific filing, documentation, and quality requirements. Reciprocal recognition between provinces exists but varies, so ABSA may require its own validation for equipment used in Alberta.
We’ve compiled ABSA CRN records of common fittings, flanges and valves. In line with the CSA B51 code, these products are assigned to A (pipe fittings, including couplings, tees, elbows, wyes, plugs, unions, pipe caps, and reducers), B (flanges) and C (line valves) categories. You can explore the records below by manufacturer name, CRN and its expiry date, sorting them by the assigned category or simply clicking on a record to see accompanying official documentation.
